4 Tips for ISP Contractors in 2020

ISP contractors make money when their fleet of trucks is efficiently and effectively running their routes and completing the deliveries on time. MAG Trucks aims to make truck buying easy for contractors by eliminating the stress and making things transparent. The way MAG conducts business is not typical for step van dealers. MAG has an onsite engineering and design team, along with a mechanic that ensures each step van is equipped and ready to join an ISP fleet. Let's explore the 4 Tips for ISP Contractors in 2020

Tip #1: Research the dealer. Is all of the inventory listed on the dealer's website? Is the site easy to navigate? Does the website offer helpful information? Does the dealer have any google reviews? Do they have a list of ISP contractors that you can contact for references?

We can only speak on behalf of MAG Trucks, but we take pride in continually improving our website and keeping the inventory up-to-date so the buyer can view all options within the site. We understand that contractors are managing every aspect of their business and have very limited time to spend on researching new trucks to add to their fleets. In most cases, by the time the contractor reaches out to a dealer they are in a dire need to replace a truck that has been removed from service.  We aim to make the truck buying process easy and respectful of ones’ time. It's imperative to have a dealer you can trust and can deliver your step van on time within the parameters set during the purchase process.

If time allows, ask to visit the dealer. Not all dealers have lots with the inventory sitting on it, ready to be delivered or picked up. Located just outside of Kansas City, Missouri, MAG Trucks has an open door policy. We welcome anyone to stop by and tour our 50,000 sq. ft facility and watch our team in action. Each week, our crew finishes several refurbished step vans, which head out to an Independent contractors route. From a custom paint job and decals to customizing the shelving components, all of MAG Trucks’ used step van fabrication is completed in-house. Our trucks are lining the parking lot of our facility and able to be test driven at a moment's notice.

Tip #2: Is an inspection completed on every used truck? Not all used ISP trucks are created equal. Many refurbishing companies do not perform the proper inspections to detect issues that can cause downtime and frustration for the contractors, business owners, and drivers. At MAG Trucks, we have an in-house inspection team that conducts mechanical inspections and ensures the used trucks are fit for ISP routes. Each one of our trucks receives a Certified Mechanical Inspection upon arriving at MAG Trucks. The checklist has over 100 listed items that are reviewed. Ask the dealer about their inspection process to understand how and what they are doing!

Tip #3: Is the step van ISP-ready? When looking into dealers, it's important to understand if the step vans are ISP ready. Questions to consider include:

  • Does the truck have a jump seat?
  • Backup camera?
  • ISP-approved decals?
  • Custom White Paint?
  • Approved Shelving?

These are critical questions to ask your dealer, so you aren’t stuck during your purchase process with additional costs to bring your truck up to ISP standards. Nobody likes unforeseen expenses, and even less when you're placed in the situation without knowledge of their process. MAG Trucks can certainly answer any specific questions to get you ready for your route!

Tip #4: Understand the warranty and service locations. Not all warranties are created equal. Asking potential step van dealers a few questions regarding their warranty can save you thousands. Here are a few questions to ask:

  • Do you have to take the step van back to the dealer for your warranty work?
  • Do you have a limited list of those that can perform the warranty work?
  • What is included?
  • What is excluded from the warranty?

MAG Trucks is centrally located outside of Kansas City, Missouri, but delivers to contractors all across the country. We can deliver your truck directly to you within 7-14 days.
