Job summary

MAG Trucks mechanics maintain diesel and gas equipment by completing inspections and preventive maintenance checklists; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping accurate, detailed records; and contributing to our finished food truck and trailer builds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all responsibilities performed but rather a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.

  • Follow a checklist of inspection procedures
  • Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keep equipment available for use by completing routine and preventive maintenance schedules; installing the component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures
  • Complete routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts on company vehicles
  • Inspect and corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, transmissions, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units
  • Test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and/or after repairs are made
  • Read and interpret diagnostic test results from diagnostic equipment such as an oscilloscope, which is used to measure the voltage produced by electronic components
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment by using hydraulic jacks or hoists
  • Adjust and align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and attach system components
  • Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards
  • Maintain vehicle records by documenting services and repairs
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance
  • Contain costs by using the warranty; evaluating service and parts options
  • Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders with procurement department; verifying receipts
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications
  • Willingness to provide input and participate in improvement projects
  • All other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

  • 5+ years of prior mechanic experience in a professional shop
  • High school or GED

Special Requirements

  • Ability to stand for 8+ hours a day and lift up to 50 pounds
