ISP Contractors Guide for 2019

A New Year is two weeks away, while some people are soul-searching for personal goals, now is an optimal time to establish professional goals. MAG Trucks is the nation’s leading supplier of new and used step vans for ISP Contractors and has created an ISP Contractors Guide for 2019. We hope you find the content helpful, educational, and informative.

ISP Contractors Guide for 2019

Set Goals

The economy is the largest unknown factor in the delivery and ISP world. The amount of goods shipped from point A to point B can dictate the success of one’s year. However, there are many goals a business owner, similar to an ISP Contractor, can set for 2019 that are internally focused.  Here are a few ideas:

  1. Implement a team meeting once a month to review objectives and issues. This is also a great time to listen to your employees. What concerns are they voicing that you may not want to hear, can you find a solution that will help productivity? What is working? What is not working?
  2. Look at efficiency and productivity reports from 2018 based on each route, each driver, etc. How can you set attainable goals for 2019 to improve on the previous year?
  3. Create a list of company-wide, department-wide, and management goals and post them where everyone within the company can view them. Continue to review them at your team meetings to ensure the goals remain at the top of mind.

Focus on Your Fleet

One of the most important objectives of an ISP Contractors Guide for 2019 is the fleet. Without operable step vans and supplemental vehicles, you could not have a successful business. Just like anything else, you need to keep your fleet healthy, on the road, and running as efficiently as possible.

  1. Is your current fleet of step vans and supplemental vehicles in need of some TLC? Be proactive with your trucks and take them in for a maintenance check.  It is much better to be proactive and have time to prepare for the out-of-service time than to be caught with an immediate need to repair a truck when it breaks down.  Besides the standard vehicle maintenance areas – tires, fluids, mechanics – look at the following as well:
    1. Does your current fleet meet ISP standards? If you have any questions on the ISP standards, the team at MAG Trucks can assist. Give us a call 800.888.4614 and speak to one of our experienced and knowledgeable team members!
      1. White paint – clean and sleek look with graphics
      2. Proper Shelving
      3. Back-up Camera
      4. Rear Roll-up Door
      5. Enforcer Lock
      6. Safety Kit
      7. Fire Extinguisher
      8. Black Bumpers
  2. Do you have a trusted mechanic? If not, commit to 2019 as your year to find one you feel comfortable with and build on the relationship. This is a solid relationship to nurture.

Peak Season

It’s never too early to gear up for the next year’s peak season. Obviously the current peak season is still in full swing, after the dust settles, you may want to take some time to debrief and reflect on changes you would implement for 2019.

  1. Did you find a need to lease step vans or supplemental vehicles during peak season?
    1. If so, you may want to take advantage of the Section 179 deduction and purchase a new or used step van for the 2019 peak season. Learn more at Section179.org

  2. Were you properly and adequately staffed?
    1. If not, how can you find more qualified drivers for 2019?
    2. If so, were you overly staffed?
  3. Did you have a thorough process in place should one of your vehicles break down?
    1. Did you have an operable, ISP-ready truck or step van ready to pick up where the other one left off? If not, did you have quick access to a rentable step van? How much time would you lose out of service?
